2016’s Joy Armada is a musical collection of short stories chronicling and intersecting with the lives of a cast of characters experiencing or searching for joy. The album explores the joy of “moving the stone” and becoming unstuck, sensual joy, the joy of laying in bed all day slipping in and out of dreams, Friday night edge-of-town ice house joy, the joy in searching, the joy in finding, the joy of recognizing our common human condition, the fast but slippery joy of fame, the joy of commitment, and the joy of finally letting go and asking for help.
Eric is joined on the record by longtime collaborator Chris Roubieu on drums and percussion (The Longbox, Waiting for August, Eric Beverly and the Sunday Best, Muleshoe, Gravelene); George Reiff on bass (Joe King Carrasco & The Crowns, Charlie Sexton Sextet, Jon Dee Graham, Bruce Robison); Danish singer-musician-composer Nana Schwartzlose on backing vocals (Nana Schwartzlose, Termingal Argh, Fabric); and international man of mystery Shim Taylor on backing vocals (Shim Taylor, Muleshoe).
